Incident Involved Building, Pedestrians, and Utility Poles
A box truck was involved in a serious incident in Boston's Chinatown neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in injuries to at least six people. The vehicle reportedly collided with a building and struck several pedestrians.
Victims Transported to Hospital, Driver Extracted
According to Boston EMS, four individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Among those hospitalized, two were reported to be in critical condition. Additionally, two other people sustained injuries that were treated at the scene of the crash. Tufts Medical Center confirmed receiving three patients from the incident, with conditions ranging from critical to good.
The Boston Fire Department reported that the Penske truck involved in the incident had also struck multiple utility poles and came to rest wedged between a pole and a nearby building. Firefighters successfully extracted the driver, who was trapped inside the truck's cab.
Penske Responds to the Incident
A spokesperson for Penske, Randolph Ryerson, issued a statement acknowledging the incident and stating that the company is closely monitoring the situation. Ryerson affirmed Penske's commitment to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation by authorities. He also expressed the company's concern for those injured, noting that the truck was rented to a commercial trucking company. No further details were available from Penske at this time.
